The historic centre

The historic centre is the most fascinating part of the city. A labyrinth of alleyways leading to squares full of life. The yellow walls and old houses evoke the town's Catalan origins, as do the religious buildings. The Cathedral of Santa Maria is an example of this, its bell tower is a typical Catalan type and can be vited, offering a wonderful view of Alghero from above. Tickets for the visit can be purchased at the Diocesan Museum of Sacred art (Museo Diocesano di Arte Sacra).

Alghero preserves intact the ancient walls and towers that have always surrounded it. Its ramparts, dedicated to the great navigators, have become a picturesque promenade .

Lose yourself in the alley full of coral shops and restaurants where you can enjoy typical Alghero dishes and the inevitable lobster.

And, at sunset time, all to watch the sea. You will not be disappointed.

If you have the chance to visit Alghero for longer, you will find more information about its history, events and itineraries on the official website algheroturismo.eu

The beaches of Alghero

Alghero is famous for the beauty of its beaches.

The Spiaggia del Lazzaretto (Lazzaretto Beach) and the Spiaggia delle Bombarde (Bombarde Beach), with their crystal-clear waters and numerous shades of blue, are a must-see and can be reached by taking the road from Fertilia to Porto Conte.

Continuing towards Capo Caccia, you can stop for a swim at the  Spiaggia di Mugoni, a two-kilometre stretch of sand with a pine and eucalyptus forest behind it.

Other beaches around Alghero.

Not far from Alghero, in the municipality of Stintino, is the Spiaggia della Pelosa.

It is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with fine white sand and a very clear sea.

The seabed is so shallow that it can be walked on for several dozen metres.

In front of the beach is a small island with an Aragonese tower dating back to 1578 that can be easily reached on foot.

In order to preserve the innate beauty of the site and to limit beach erosion, the municipality introduced a number of years ago a "closed number" and a 3,50 euro entrance fee.

the site for booking is www.lapelosastintino.com
